All assignments can be done using other spreadsheet software. See the handout outlining your software options. Ask me if you have any questions about your version of Excel.
calculator A graphing calculator with advanced statistical features is required; the TI-83, TI-84, and TI-89 models are all fine.

Attendance

Students should plan on attending every class, on time. Almost every class we will cover material that goes beyond the scope of the textbook, so don't assume you can simply read the book to keep up. If you must miss a day, you are responsible for any and all material missed. Be sure to check www.brucesimmons.com for any documents used in class.

Online Homework

Online homework emphasizes basic skills and concepts. Do these problems before moving on to the Problem Sets and Excel Assignments. Most of the online homework problems are adapted from textbook examples and exercises.

Excel Assignments (EA) and Problem Sets (PS)

There are eight assignments in this category. Five are Excel Assignments (EA) which you will submit via email. Three are Problem Sets (PS) which you will work on paper. Your lowest score from these eight assignments will be dropped.

Project

A term project will be assigned for this course. More details on the project can be found from a separate handout.

Tests and Exam

There are two unit tests and a final exam. On the tests you may use one side of a regular 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper as a cheat sheet (hand-written, no photocopies). On the final you may use two sides. You will need a calculator for the tests and the exam.

Course Grade

Your grade for the course will be determined by the number of points you earn through Online Homework, PS and EA work, tests, project, and the final exam as shown in the table below.

Component Points
Online Homework 100
Average of PS and EA grades (lowest score dropped) 100
Test 1 100
Test 2 100
Project 100
Final Exam 150
Total 650

At the end of the course I will add up all the points you earned and divide the number of possible points. Your resulting percentage, rounded to the nearest percent, will correspond to a letter grade: 90% or higher for an A, 80% for a B, 70% for a C, 60% for a D, and less than 60% results in an F. Report cards are no longer mailed out; your final course grade will be available via myClackamas, usually within a couple of days after taking the final.

Please also note: Withdrawal from the class is the responsibility of the student. A grade of “I” (incomplete) will be given only if 75% of the work for the course has been completed with a grade of “C” or better, and by prior, individual arrangement with the instructor. An “audit” grade (“X”) implies attendance and participation and must be arranged with the instructor.

It is my intent that we stick to these grading criteria and follow the schedule outlined on the course calendar (see brucesimmons.com), but I reserve the right to make changes, after soliciting students' input, as I see fit.
